Dog Chains

So, you have a beautiful property you just bought out in the country, over an acre of wide open spaces with a cozy cabin on it. You want to go and spend a relaxing week out there, and you cannot imagine a relaxing vacation without your faithful friend. Before you go, do yourself and your furry companion a favor and pick up a dog chain.

Dog chains are used to tether a dog to a certain area. In the situation above, it is good to have a chain, even if your dog is very obedient, because he or she will be in an unfamiliar setting. Many dogs will set off for home under those circumstances, and the wide open spaces will present many difficulties should your dog decide to attempt the trip. You can tether your dog to the porch of your cabin in the evening, assured that your pet will still be there in the morning.

Or perhaps you don’t have a second property, but you do have a dog. A dog chain can still save you a world of hurt. If your dog is a digger, you don’t want him anywhere near your garden. Attaching him to a tree in the middle of the yard with a 15 yard dog chain will give him the freedom to run around without endangering your plants.

Dog chains are a reliable and inexpensive way to restrain your animal. Many times it’s as simple as keeping your dog in the yard while still allowing people to reach your front door molested, or the aforementioned keeping the dog out of the garden example. Whatever your reason for keeping your dog on a tether, a chain is the cheapest, most reliable way to do it.

Chains have a major advantage over leather cords. The reason is simple, a dog won’t chew through a metal chain; they will chew through leather if you let them. I’ve never met a dog that didn’t want to run around at some point, and the dog will probably try to free itself from a tether. Short lengths of chain can even be used as a leash when you walk your dog, again the chain allows you the peace of mind that accompanies a restraint your dog doesn’t want to eat.

But why should I use a dog chain instead of a dog run or a kennel you may ask? Well the biggest reason is cost. You can buy a dog chain for less than twenty dollars in the US. Constructing a kennel or dog run that your pooch won’t immediately demolish on the other hand can cost hundreds of dollars, as well as the cost to you in time spent. By all means, if you have the time and money to build a dog run, it will be an easier place to maintain than picking up from your dog all over the yard. But if you want a cheap and easy way to keep your dog in check, a dog chain is just the thing for you.
