Dog first aid products generally fall into two categories. There are things that are the same as humans, such as bandages, splints, and water. And then there are things that are unique to dogs, such as pain medications, a muzzle, or pest repellent. A well stocked first aid kit will be a lifeline if your friend is injured while out with you.
Many things that you would stock a dog first aid kit with are the same things you would keep in a first aid kit for yourself. It doesn’t matter if your wrist needs a splint or it’s your dog’s paw that needs it; you’re going to use the same materials to accomplish the task. Generally, if a first aid procedure doesn’t involve drugs or chemical reactions it will be the same for both humans and dogs.
Drugs on the other hand should always be checked with your veterinarian before you give them to your dog. This is because the same products that we use on ourselves can be deadly to dogs. Take painkillers for example, we could take aspirin, Tylenol, or ibuprofen to ease the pain, but two out of those three will kill a dog! This is why it’s important to have the proper first aid products for your dog; there is no worse feeling in the world than to make a problem worse when you’re trying to fix it.
