We’ve all seen the entertainment clips of a little dog pulling on someone’s pant leg with their teeth. What we may not realize is that for many dogs this is a necessary activity. Dog rope toys will allow your dog to exercise its jaw muscles without ruining drapes, pants, or dresses.
When you go to buy a rope toy for your dog remember that in this case simpler is better. Your dog’s mouth is going to be all over this rope, so it doesn’t need to be anything special. The important things are that the dog can grip it in its mouth without much trouble; and that it won’t inadvertently teach your dog to try clamping onto other objects in your home.
In fact, oftentimes a simple alternative to a rope toy is just a knotted up sock. The biggest drawback to a sock versus a rope is that medium or large dogs will go through socks very quickly. You also have to keep any socks you plan on wearing well out of your dog’s reach, because they will see any sock laying around as an invitation to play.
