Hamster toys give your hamsters plenty of exercise and hours of entertainment.
Consider your hamster’s needs when selecting toys. Hamster’s teeth never stop growing therefore all hamsters need things to chew on to prevent their teeth from overgrowth. In addition, exercise is equally important for these small rodents. With this in mind, choosing toys for your pet should be fairly simple.
Wheels and run-abouts, also known as hamster balls, make great hamster toys. It is important to make sure the wheel and ball are the proper size for your hamster. Solid surface wheels rather than wired wheels reduce the risk of injuries. Run-abouts are the clear plastic balls you put your hamster in and let them run around on the floor without worry of them getting away. Both wheels and run-abouts are great ways to make sure your hamster gets enough exercise.
Wooden pet chew toys are another ideal choice. Wood items should ideally be safe and free of pesticides and chemicals. If you are unsure a type of wood is safe, it is probably best to stick with items made for use by pets. Pesticide-free fruit tree branches from your backyard or hardwood wood blocks or shapes that are not chemically treated are okay for your hamster. Cardboard can also be provided for chewing.
Wood ladders, climbing blocks and mazes make great hamster toys as well. If you can't find wood ladders in the hamster section of your pet store, check the bird section. Any of these wooden items are bound to be chewed, so be prepared to replace them as needed. You can also use hardwood dowels and wood to make your own ramps and climbing structures.
