A pet carrier is an enclosure for pets that keeps them securely inside and allows them to be carried or moved from place to place with the animal safely inside. They should be big enough for the animal to stand up and turn around but not much bigger than that. A larger carrier takes up more room and is more dangerous to the animal in case of an accident.
There is a pet carrier for any size of animal from large dog breeds to small cats and even rabbits and gerbils. They are made from robust plastics or steel grates so the pet cannot escape and they are strong enough to take abuses from travel and be stacked. An angry animal is protected from harming others by the small openings which also allow for good ventilation.
A pet carrier should be used before the pet ever goes anywhere. Making it comfortable inside possibly with a bed and some treats will make it an enjoyable place to be. Getting a pet accustomed to the carrier before any real travel is done will make them more comfortable in their carrier when actually going places.
