The basic function of a reptile cage is to create a comfortable environment for your pet. Adequate ventilation and heating are important aspects to consider when building a cage. As reptiles are cold-blooded, the ability to maintain a stable environment is essential to the well-being of your lizard or snake.
The size of a reptile cage should be large enough to give the animal enough room to move about. A cage that is too small removes any chance for the animal to stretch out and exercise. This can lead to numerous health and behavior problems.
